How often should an air conditioner be cleaned?
As a guide, once a year suits many homes. A unit that runs most of the day, or a home with pets or allergy sufferers, can need it more often. If you notice a musty smell or weaker airflow, it's worth getting it cleaned sooner.
Why does my split system smell musty?
In humid Queensland weather the indoor coil gets cold and sweats. Dust that sticks to it stays damp, mould and algae can grow, and the fan blows the smell into the room. Cleaning the coil, fan barrel and covers removes what has built up.
